The Philippine government is monitoring developments on the new fast-spreading Covid-19 variant called Lambda, Malacañang said.
“We will monitor the development and we will act accordingly,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing held in Pampanga Tuesday.
Roque said the government is taking steps to avoid the Lambda variant from entering the country.
“Ang Lambda variant po ay nanggagaling po sa Peru at sa Latin America, it helps na wala pong direct flights to the Philippines from Latin America. Halos lahat po ng mga flights ay nag-originate po sa Estados Unidos,” he added.
His comments came after the Malaysian government said that Lambda version of Covid-19, which has been identified in more than 30 countries in the past four weeks, could be more deadlier than the Delta variant, first detected in India.
