The government will continue scaling up its COVID-19 vaccination and reminding the public to follow health protocols to stop the spread of the highly transmissible Lambda variant, treatment czar Leopoldo Vega said Thursday (July 8).
In an interview on Politiko TV’s “Balitang Sapolitika,” Vega acknowledged the need to be proactive in preventing the community transmission of the Lambda variant, which has been tagged as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization (WHO).
“Kailangan talaga ma-minimize ang transmission ng mga variants of concern na ito. Lalong-lalo na ngayon mayroon tayong Delta virus or variant na mas mataas ang transmissibility,” he said.
Vega said all COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for emergency use are effective against the Lambda variant, which reportedly originated in Peru and has spread to 35 Latin American countries.
“Itong dalawang strategy, itong PDITR (prevent-detect-isolate-treat-reintegrate) natin na talagang ini-implement tsaka compliance, tsaka scaling ng vaccination. Ito yung mga strategies na talagang pwedeng makagawa ng population protection,” he said.
