Kids aged 5 and up now allowed to go out in MGCQ, GCQ areas

By Prince Golez

The national government has allowed children aged 5 years and above in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) and GCQ, except those under heightened restrictions, to step outside their homes.

This new policy was approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases during its meeting on Thursday, according to Malacañang.

In a statement Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said outdoor areas are limited to parks, playgrounds, beaches, biking and hiking trails, outdoor tourist sites and attractions as may be defined by the Department of Tourism, outdoor non-contact sports courts and venues, and al-fresco dining establishments.

Mixed-use indoor/outdoor buildings and facilities such as malls and similar establishments remain off-limits for children, added Roque.

The IATF said children must be supervised by adults and observe minimum public health standards when going out of their residences.

The local government units may increase the above age restriction of children depending on the Covid-19 situation in their respective jurisdictions, the task force also said.
