Seryoso SC! Gesmundo reaffirms commitment to fight human trafficking

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo has assured that the Supreme Court (SC) remains committed to fight human trafficking.

The SC Public Information Office (SC) said in a statement that Gesmundo conveyed this commitment before officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Australia Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT) project during Friday’s (July 23) virtual courtesy call.

“It may not be amiss to state that the Philippine Supreme Court, for its part, has affirmed convictions in cases involving trafficking in persons,”Gesmundo cited during the meeting.

During the meeting, the SCPIO said Gesmundo also gave his word that “the Supreme Court and its judicial education arm the Philippine Judicial Academy (PhilJA) will continue to support ASEAN-ACT’s projects.”

“He also said that collaborations will continue on the conduct of trafficking-in-persons trainings, in coordination with the other stakeholders of the justice sector in the Philippines,” it added.

The SCPIO noted that the ASEAN-ACTis a long-standing partner of the PhilJA in capacitating judges, court workers, and allied government agencies handling trafficking in persons cases.
