Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo has decided to re-open the Supreme Court (SC) this Monday (Aug. 23).
“In view of the declaration of modified community quarantine in Metro Manila from August 21 to 31, 2021, the different offices in the Supreme Court shall be physically opened starting August 23, 2021 but with reduced work force,” read Gesmundo’s memorandum dated Aug. 20.
Despite this, Gesmundo informed parties-litigants that “the filing/service of pleadings and other court submissions shall be by registered mail, or through the services of duly accredited private couriers or by transmitting them through electronic mail in accordance with the existing electronic filing guidelines.”
“For exceptionally urgent matters, personal filing of the pleading or submission may be done through the Docket Receiving Section of the Judicial Records Office but only after the concerned personnel of the Docket Receiving Section shall have properly communicated and cleared the matter covered by the pleading or submission being personally filed is indeed urgent,” he said.
Earlier, Gesmundo ordered the SC physically closed from August 2 to 20.
The chief justice made the move in line with decision of the government to place Metro Manila under stricter enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to avert the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus.
