Kailangang i-memorize ‘yan! House panel OKs inclusion of WW2 history into tertiary curriculum

The House Committee on Higher and Technical Education has endorsed for plenary approval a measure seeking to integrate a comprehensive study of the Philippine history during World War II into the higher education curriculum.

Under House Bill 9850, 50% of the mandatory Philippine history subject being offered under the general education curriculum in higher education courses of all higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country.

“(The measure seeks) to inculcate the youth patriotism and nationalism and to foster love of humanity, respect for human rights, and appreciation of the role of the national heroes in the historical development of the country,” the measure read.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), in collaboration with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office-Department of National Defense (PVAO-DND) are tasked to implement the measure.

The bill also seeks to preserve the stories about the great struggle and heroism of Filipino soldiers during WWII, including the crucial role they played in repelling Japanese occupational forces and in preserving Philippine independence.

HEIs will be encouraged to keep in their libraries adequate books, resources, and reference materials on WWII in the Philippines.
