Senator Bong Go urged beleaguered Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to “make the supreme sacrifice” and resign amid the controversies surrounding his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s hearing Friday (August 27), Go said the issues concerning the Department of Health might be getting to Duque despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s trust in him.
“My word of advice is make the supreme sacrifice when the right time comes. For now, may hearing naman tayo dito sa Blue Ribbon Committee clear yourself and address COA’s findings,” Go told Duque.

“Mahal ka ng Pangulo at ipinaglalaban ka rin niya, desisyon mo na ‘yan pagdating ng panahon but my advice is make the supreme sacrifice alang-alang sa mga kababayan nating Pilipino,” the senator added.
When Senator Panfilo Lacson asked Go if he’s calling for Duque’s resignation, Duterte’s former aide said he only gave the Health Secretary a piece of advice.

“Did Senator Go just ask Secretary Duque to resign when he told him to make the sacrifice?” Lacson asked.
“Mr. Chair and Senator Ping, advice lang po ‘yung sa akin,” Go said.
Duterte to Duque: Respond to COA findings
Duque is in the hot seat over the Commission on Audit’s report that the DOH had “deficiencies” in spending over P67 billion in 2020 for COVID-19 response.
