‘Pag gusto maraming paraan! Lacson: DBM chief’s leave won’t delay in 2022 budget’s passage

Senator Panfilo Lacson expects no delay in the passage of the proposed P5.024-trillion national budget for 2022 despite the medical leave of Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado.

Lacson, who earned a reputation as the watchdog of the budget, said the DBM has enough career officials to do the job, and can use telecommunications technology to get guidance from Avisado.

“Even with the physical absence of Secretary Wendel Avisado, the Department of Budget and Management has an abundance of competent and capable career undersecretaries and assistant secretaries who can avail of existing telecommunication technology for his guidance and direction,” Lacson said in a statement.

“I thus cannot see any reason for the delay in the constitutionally mandated 30-day period submission of the National Expenditure Program to Congress, after President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address last July 26,” he added.

Also, he said the same can be said for simultaneous public hearings on the budget in the House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.

Over the weekend, Malacanang announced that Avisado would be on leave. Avisado reportedly contracted COVID-19. Lacson said he is praying for Avisado’s speedy recovery.

“Let us all pray for the speedy and full recovery of Sec. Avisado,” he said.
