Palace says police ‘census’ in brgys not for political purposes: Matagal na ‘yan pinapatupad

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Thursday denied that there is a political motive behind the ongoing nationwide “data-gathering” activities by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in several barangays.

During his televised briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the policy is being implemented even during the previous administration.

In fact sa Japan, yan yung cornerstone ng kanilang pagmemaintain ng peace and order,” said Roque.

Senator Panfilo Lacson, who was police chief from 1999 to 2001, earlier criticized the PNP for engaging in data-gathering activities, saying cops should not engage in “partisan politics” using public funds.
