Pay debts to private hospitals, Palace prods PhilHealth: ‘We need to see results now’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Thursday urged the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to speed up payment of unpaid claims to private hospitals.

PhilHealth should settle its financial obligations to hospitals to ensure unhampered operations, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“So, panawagan po ulit ng presidente and I’m sure si Atty. Guerran will listen to this. We need to see results now,” he added.

The Philippine Hospital Association, an organization composed of close to 2,000 private and government hospitals, said several of its members face financial pressure due to their unpaid claims from PhilHealth. The claims of their members range from P50 million to P700 million, with one hospital accruing up to P1.2 billion.

On one hand, the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines said the state-run insurer has around P28 billion unpaid claims to private hospitals covering the period of March to December 2020.
