President Rodrigo Duterte believes the portly Senator Dick Gordon does not embody the fundamental principle of the Red Cross: neutrality.
“ Alam mo one guiding principle ng Red Cross is neutrality and it is defined as follows: ‘Neutrality: In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature’,” said Duterte in a briefing.
“Masabi mo ba ito sa sarili mo? Can you really — Gordon, can you really face the mirror? Pakitingin ng…Ngayon, ngayon na. Kung nasa labas ka, you go to the washroom. Do you fit into these stringent objectives of the Red Cross?” added Duterte.
Duterte has labeled Gordon, who has ruled the Philippine Red Cross as chairman for the last 17 years, as a “despot.” Duterte also claimed that Gordon has used the Red Cross to enrich himself and boost his political stock.
