The Philippines needs a weekly delivery of 9 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to achieve its goal of vaccinating 100 million Filipinos by the end of this year, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said.
“To achieve our goal of vaccinating the 100 million residents of the Philippines by the end of the year, between now and the end of the year, we need a delivery of around 9 million doses a week,” Dominguez told President Rodrigo Duterte last Friday.
Dominguez lamented that the country only got “three and a half million” Covid-19 vaccine doses in early September, saying the government has a lot of catching up to do.
“We need 9 million a week so that we will be able to get a total of 195 million vaccine doses since March. And with all of that, we can vaccinate about 100 million people. So if you divide the balances by the number of weeks, we need around 9 million a week to be delivered by the pharmas,” according to him.
“This has already been ordered and there is already money set aside for this. What we are waiting for is the delivery… Unfortunately, for the first week of September, we only received about three and a half million. So we have to catch up for the coming weeks,” he added.
As of September 10, the Philippines has administered 37,328,114 vaccine doses nationwide, of which 21,589,190 got their first dose while 16,138,934 were fully inoculated.
