Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday said it was a “personal” decision for him not to run for senator in the 2022 national elections.
In September, a Quezon-based citizens’ movement prodded Eleazar to join the senatorial race.
“Personal decision din at kasama rin ang consultation with the family,” Eleazar said in an interview during the Laging Handa public briefing.
“Actually sa akin naman, from the very start naman, nasabi ko naman na talagang ang sa akin po ay nandito ako bilang pulis at ngayon ay nahirang bilang hepe ng Pambansang Pulisya kaya nga talagang naka-focus po ang aking kaisipan at ang aking sarili sa paglilingkod at nang tapusin ito,” he added.
Eleazar will step down as PNP chief on November 13, when he reaches the compulsory retirement age of 56.
