Ibang klaseng boss! Lacson as an LGBTQ ally and other character traits, in the eyes of his staff member

An ‘underrated’ public servant, who never fell into the habit of political grandstanding or helping others just for show, is how a staff member would characterize Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

Claudyn Caparon has been working for Lacson since 2014 after accepting a writing job in his communications team back when he was coordinating post-Typhoon ‘Yolanda’ recovery efforts under the Aquino administration. She is now one of his speechwriters in the Senate.

From her standpoint, Lacson deserves to be voted into a higher leadership position because of his pragmatic approach in governance and agility in breaking down complicated social and economic problems that require both long-term and practical solutions.

“He (Lacson) takes opinions from experts and common tao (citizens), saying public office should always be participative. He crunches numbers and data like it’s a breeze,” Caparon wrote in a recent Facebook post.

As regards his fair-to-middling popularity among Filipinos, Caparon explained this is because Lacson preferred to work quietly and render assistance to the public without constant media fanfare as much as possible.

Lacson distinguishes himself from other traditional and self-absorbed politicians because, unlike them, he was never comfortable attaching his name on relief packages or other forms of aid distributed to indigents, according to her.

“Sa mga tanong na ‘ano ba nagawa nyan’ at ‘hindi naman bumababa si Ping sa mga komunidad’—wala man laging kasunod na cameraman, I can sincerely tell you that he has done more than enough (hindi lang epal),” Caparon said.

(To those who are asking ‘what did he do for the people’ and ‘why did he not go down to the communities’—he just did not have a cameraman around, [but] I can sincerely tell you that he has done more than enough [he’s just not fishing for compliments]).

“He pays his due even if everyone volunteers to take care of the bill, never uses his name to advance personal interests of friends, and hates asking for personal favors. He is not beholden to anyone. That’s for sure,” she revealed further.

Caparon likewise disclosed that Lacson never settled on rumors with respect to his corruption exposés. He does his own investigations and due diligence in gathering solid evidence instead of waiting for someone to blow the whistle.

And while it may suprise a lot of people, Caparon also mentioned that Lacson has always been an ally of women and members of the pride movement. Despite his strong demeanor and strict military background, he does not exhibit any signs of toxic masculinity.

“He is first call out wimps for insensitive remarks about women and LGBTQ+. For those who know me, this matter is a non-negotiable. Gladly and rightfully, I have never felt slighted nor wronged under his watch,” according to Caparon.

Caparon decided to post about her boss last October 18 to somehow help other people gain a better understanding of the kind of leadership and service that they can expect from Lacson, now that he is running for president in the 2022 elections.

“I just believe he deserves a fair share of an honest and personal account of his person in the midst of this crazy, crazy world. All told, I pray that we all have a good run this election. Let’s elevate the discourse and be respectful—to each other and to our country,” she said.

Her post has since received generally positive reactions and comments from other Facebook users, who are convinced that Lacson is the most qualified presidential candidate among other aspirants, and he deserves their votes.
