Former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares has been excluded from the senatorial slate of presidential aspirant Leni Robredo due to some objections by another senatorial hopeful.
Colmenares identified former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who supposedly blocked his inclusion in Robredo’s list of senatorial candidates in the 2022 elections.
The veep earlier bared her 11-man senatorial lineup, including political rivals Trillanes and former Vice President Jojo Binay, in her quest for a united opposition. The list included mostly reelectionist senators such as Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri, Dick Gordon, and Risa Hontiveros. The 12th spot remains open.

Kahit kasama si Binay: Trillanes respects Robredo’s selection of Senate bets
“There were some representatives of the vice president to discuss that I am being considered however there were objections within their, probably their slate or coalition,” Colmenares said during ANC’s “After the Fact” hosted by Christian Esguerra.
Asked who opposed his inclusion in senatorial slate, Colmenares said: “Yes, well, nabanggit ‘yan. It was Senator Trillanes.”
Colmenares admitted he never had a chance to meet with Robredo to thresh out concerns about his inclusion in the Senate lineup.
“We would have been happy if we wold have sat down with vice president so that they could discuss with us not just the platform but also the objections so we can respond pero we never had a chance,” he said.
Colmenares respected Robredo’s decision against choosing him to be part of her coalition. She said Robredo considered what was best for her presidential run.
“Vice President Leni Robredo’s decision on who to include in her senatorial slate is her prerogative as the Presidential candidate. My non-inclusion in her slate at this time is based on what she thinks is best for the interest of her candidacy,” he said in a statement.
Despite the lack of Robredo’s endorsement, Colmenares will rely on his Makabayan allies to push his Senate bid in the upcoming elections. He said they would not be “distracted from its quest to write finis to the tyrannical reign of Pres. Duterte.”
“We will employ our 3.5 million voter base, our national campaign machinery, our social media warriors, and poll watchers nationwide to push for the people’s agenda in the Senate and oppose the efforts of Duterte and Marcos to return to Malacañang,” he said.
