Patria o muerte! Walden Bello echoes Che Guevara’s battlecry, seeks to eliminate old trapo politics

This is the campaign battlecry of vice presidential aspirant Walden Bello in the 2022 elections, echoing the historic speech of Argentine-Cuban revolutionary leader Che Guevara before the United Nations.

Guevara, a prominent figure in the Cuban revolution in the 1950s, became an icon of leftist radicalism and anti-imperialism.

Bello, in a latest Facebook post, gave two reasons behind his decision to be the running mate of Leody de Guzman in the 2022 elections. The plan includes stopping the Marcos-Duterte “axis of evil” and introducing reforms towards a socialist and democratic country.

“PATRIA O MUERTE, VENCEREMOS!” Bello said.

“Why am I running with Ka Leody de Guzman? Two reasons: 1) we want to stop the axis of evil of Marcos and Duterte; and 2) we want to launch the urgent task of transforming the Philippines in a socialist and truly democratic direction,” he said.

He proposed the “new politics” to replace the trapo system in the country.

“Out with the told trapo politics. Now is the time for the New Politics that our people, especially the young, have been desperately looking for. Sabi nga ni Che Guevara, Motherland or Death, Venceremos!” he said.
