If elected president, Senator Manny Pacquiao won’t lift a finger to stop the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) investigation into the bloody war on drugs by the Duterte administration.
Pacquiao, in an interview over ANC’s Headstart, said he will respect the ICC investigation on the drug war even if it leads to the arrest of President Duterte.
Duterte is facing an ICC investigation into the alleged crimes against humanity committed in the anti-drug campaign. He earlier declared he will not cooperate with the ICC probe since it has no jurisdiction over him.
“Nirerespeto natin ang imbestigasyon ng ICC dahil miyembro tayo diyan. Unang-una, hindi po tayo tututol diyan dahil karapatan nila bilang miyembro tayo ng international community. Dapat din natin igalang ang kanilang mga proseso,” he told Headstart host Karen Davila on Friday, October 15, 2021.
The presidential aspirant made the comment when asked by Davila if he would allow the ICC investigators into the country.
On whether he will allow the arrest of Duterte if he wins the presidency, Pacquiao deferred to the ICC probe. He said he would bow to the verdict of the international court.
“Pagdating sa mga ganyan, dahil sa nirerespeto natin ‘yung imbestigasyon ng ICC, rerespetuhin din natin ang desisyon nila,” he said.
Duterte previously blasted the ICC for its alleged meddling in local affairs even as the country has already withdrawn membership from the Rome Statute, which created the court. The government had said it would not allow any ICC probers into the country.
