President Rodrigo Duterte met with “several” lawmakers in Malacañang Tuesday evening, acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said.
“The Palace confirms that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with several lawmakers last night, November 16, 2021, in Malacañang,” Nograles said in a statement Wednesday.
The secretary described the gathering with lawmakers, many of whom were Duterte’s friends dating back to his days as Davao City mayor, as “informal and relaxed.”
“It was, for the President, an opportunity to see friends he had not personally seen since the onset of the pandemic due to the restrictions that had been put in place,” said Nograles.
“With active Covid-19 cases now on a steady decline and now that we are feeling the positive impact of the government’s vaccination, we expect the President to join similar gatherings with friends and allies in the future,” he added.
Duterte, whose term as president will end June next year, is running for senator in the May 2022 elections.
