Para hindi magulo: Robredo asked to make ‘clear’ stand on abolition of anti-communist task force

Vice President Leni Robredo has been asked to set the record straight about her stance on the proposed abolition of the government’s anti-communist task force.

According to Vice presidential aspirant Walden Bello, a “clear” and “definitive” statement must be given to end the confusion arising from Robredo’s reported turnaround about the task force. The former Akbayan party-list representative wrote the “simple request to the Robredo campaign” via his Facebook page.

Robredo has drawn rebuke from some groups after she expressed support for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict during a meeting with top military officials last week. The veep previously backed the proposed abolition of the government group amid allegations of baseless red-tagging of individuals and groups.

Bello earlier expressed dismay with Robredo’s turnaround. He claimed that her action showed “elite” politikos cannot be trusted and that she was “malleable” and “cooptable.”

“In view of the tremendous confusion and polarization caused by Vice President Leni Robredo’s recent remarks, may we please ask her communications team to make a clear, definitive statement on whether or not she supports the continuation or maintenance of NTF-ELCAC?” Bello said in his latest Facebook post.

Robredo has also been urged not be vague about her position about the controversial task force.

“Please avoid ambiguities like ‘supporting its mandate’ while being silent on its actual, organizational embodiment as NTF-ELCAC,” Bello said.

“I personally am willing to put the confusion of the last 48 hours behind and take her at her word that she is against the maintenance of NTF-ELCAC if that position is explicitly made in such a communique,” he said.
