Manila Mayor Isko Moreno expressed willingness Monday (December 6) to adopt President Rodrigo Duterte as part of his senatorial slate and said he will vote for the Chief Executive for senator.
In an interview in Cebu City, Moreno described Duterte as “very much capable” of becoming a lawmaker.
“I will personally vote for President Duterte for senator. And I will be grateful, honored and humbled to have somebody like the president in our slate as an additional candidate for senator,” he said.
“Kung dati, sinasabi kong tatlo lang ang senador ko kaya siyam na lang ang proproblemahin niyo, ngayon ang sasabihin ko, walo na lang ang pag-iisipan niyo dahil may pang-apat na kong kandidato, si Pangulong Duterte,” Moreno added.
The mayor noted that Duterte could be considered an “orphan” since Senator Bong Go, his preferred presidential candidate, has announced his withdrawal from the race.
Go, however, has yet to personally file his certificate of withdrawal at the Commission on Elections head office in Intramuros, Manila.
Moreno has been vocal about welcoming Duterte’s possible support for his candidacy after Go’ withdrawal.
At present, the Moreno-led Aksyon Demokratiko has three senatorial candidates: Samira Gutoc, a women’s rights advocate from Marawi City; Dr. Carl Balita, a registered nurse and midwife and an educator and Jopet Sison, a former Quezon City councilor.
