President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday urged people from the province of Leyte to “pray directly to God” to spare them from another typhoon.
Duterte was in Maasin City, Leyte on December 18 to assess the damage caused by Typhoon “Odette.”
“Maybe when you Leyteños pray, you only pray to the priest,” the Chief Executive said during a situation briefing on Odette.
“Don’t pray to the priest, pray directly to God. Why do you believe those priests? You go directly to God even if you are in church. Pray hard,” he added.
On December 18, Duterte also distributed relief packs and cash assistance to Odette victims in Maasin City.
He also conducted an aerial inspection in areas severely affected by Odette and inspected the damages at Surigao Airport whose terminal was severely damaged by the typhoon.
