Hindi na mapakali: Robredo brings aid to Odette-ravaged Bohol

Vice President Leni Robredo is a woman of action.

Robredo flew to Bohol on Friday after it was ravaged by storm Odette and brought relief aid to affected communities. The veep, sharing her trip on Facebook, couldn’t stop worrying about the calamity victims after news updates about the typhoon came in trickles.

“Flew to Bohol the moment we were cleared to fly there post-Odette. Updates have been hard to come by over the past 24 hours, kaya hindi rin tayo mapakali. So we went to assess the situation and bring help,” she said.

When she arrived in Bohol, Robredo learned about the power outage in the province due to the onslaught of the typhoon.  Many roads were not possible due to floods.

“The whole province has no electricity at solar lights lang ang gumagana. Many roads are still unpassable, and many areas in the North and East of the province are still flooded,” she said.

“Hindi na nga kami nakatuloy sa isang evacuation center sa Loay dahil baha pa rin,” she said.

She said Bohol Governor Art Yap and his team have initiated road clearing operations with the help of the police force.

The veep met with local government officials during her visit to Bohol. So far, authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage from the typhoon. The death toll is still being verified.

“Sa ngayon, inaalam pa ang extent ng damage, as well as the death toll, because communication lines are mostly down,” she said.

“We’ll be posting more photos of the damage as documented by the ground team,” she added.

Robredo earlier initiated a massive relief operation as typhoon Odette ripped through many parts of Visayas and Mindanao. Many supporters have offered relief goods and other aid for the calamity-hit communities.

Robredo shared photos of her visit to Bohol, including her conversation with local officials in the dark, as the province was still without electricity.
