No thanks to the lack of a vaccine and mass testing, the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) over parts of the country due to COVID-19 may be extended to at least June, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Sunday.
Lacson said that while a prospective vaccine developed by Japan is being tested, no substantial results are expected until June at the earliest.
“So kung yan ang pagbabatayan natin I cannot see how we can lift the lockdown earlier than June,” Lacson said in an interview on DZBB and GMA News TV.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said he would lift the ECQ once a vaccine against COVID-19 is developed and made available.
On the other hand, Lacson said there is no massive testing in the Philippines up to now, and it would be hard to say when the curve is being flattened.
“(June 2020) at the earliest sa tingin ko kasi hindi natin nakikita, wala pa tayong massive testing na ginagawa eh,” he said.
He said the Department of Health has been reporting the number of deaths, those who tested positive and those who had recovered, it has not indicated how many people have been tested.
“Sana binibigyan tayo ng ganoon para bigyan tayong publiko ng clearer view kung may basehan ba ang sinasabing o malapit na ma-flatten ang curve medyo kontrolado natin. How can we say that na kontrolado natin kung tine-test natin kakaunti? Wala tayong numero ilan ba ang Suspect, Probable, Confirmed. Yan ang gusto natin marinig sa DOH, kung meron silang monitoring. I don’t think meron silang monitoring kasi contact tracing nila diyan tayo pumalpak unang una di ba?” he said.
