A PDP-Laban executive allied with Senator Manny Pacquiao has criticized Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi for calling for a party meeting in Cebu next week.
PDP-Laban executive director Ron Munsayac downplayed Friday (May 28) the national council assembly organized by Cusi for May 31, calling it an “ordinary” meeting.
He appealed to Cusi, PDP-Laban’s vice chairman, not to engage in politicking amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Nakakahiya naman kung pulitika pag-uusapan as early as May. Tapos po we will uproot some local executives, governor, mayors, party mates, some congressmen to go to Cebu to discuss politics,” Munsayac said in an interview on One News’ “The Chiefs.”
He said that based on PDP-Laban’s bylaws, only the party chairman, President Rodrigo Duterte, and Pacquiao, the acting president, can call for a national assembly.
“Our chairman and president have to sit down and set the agenda together and call for a council meeting. Not the vice chairman, not the [Secretary General], not me or any politician or party member,” Munsayac said.
In a letter sent to PDP-Laban members, Cusi said part of the meeting’s agenda are discussions on administrative matters related to the 2022 elections.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, sent a separate letter to his party mates asking them to ignore Cusi’s invitation.
