Restrictions in Cebu City and Mandaue City will also be relaxed starting June 1 as Metro Manila and a number of other areas in the country shift to a looser general community quarantine (GCQ) status, Malacañang said Saturday (May 30).
Prsidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) agreed to place the two cities in Cebu under GCQ after a month of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) implementation.
Aside from Metro Manila, Mandaue City and Cebu City, other areas which will transition to GCQ from June 1 to June 15 are Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the rest of Central Visayas, Pangasinan, Davao City and Zamboanga City.
The rest of the country, meanwhile, will be placed under modified GCQ, which is one step closer to the “new normal” or full lifting of restrictions.
President Rodrigo Duterte placed Luzon under ECQ in March to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
Taxis, transport network vehicle services and trains will be operational in Metro Manila under GCQ. Movement of people is still limited to accessing essential services and work.
