Duterte: No hope for further talks with Sison

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte has shut the door on the peace process with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

In a televised address Monday evening, Duterte rejected the possibility of reviving peace negotiations with CPP founder Jose Ma. Sison.

“Pero be careful because again the NPAs (New People’s Army) are around. Now, there is no longer hope for further talks with Sison,” the President said.

He also cautioned the military to remain vigilant against attacks from the terrorist group.

“Mainit masyado ‘yang M16 pati M14. I know that. They are itching to get it from you. That is why be careful. Kayong mga sundalo ko pati mga pulis, ngayon na huwag kayong mag-kompyansa. Do not be too confident about it. Pati ‘yang istasyon na nire-raid. They will kill you. And I am telling you, kill them also,” said Duterte.

Malacañang earlier condemned the continued rebel attacks against the government amid the declared bilateral ceasefire as the coronavirus crisis persists.
