‘Heroic and generous:’ Cops donate P228M for coronavirus response

The country’s policemen are taking an extra mile to help in the government’s coronavirus response.

Cops have donated P228 million to the government’s health efforts and formally turned over the funds to the Department of Finance on Wednesday, May 6.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez thanked the policemen for their heroic and generous deed during the turnover ceremony. He also called it “a great act of citizenship.”

“I officially received from the PNP a total of P228.45 million cash donations from voluntary contribution of its uniformed and non-uniformed personnel to help fund the government’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic,” Dominguez tweeted.

“I thank all the PNP personnel for this truly heroic and generous gesture. It is a great act of citizenship,” he said.

The PNP led by Gen. Archie Gamboa launched #TeamPNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge last month and aimed to raise around P200 million.

Gamboa said apart from the donation from the PNP personnel, other groups such as the PNPA Alumni Association and the Police Cavaliers Association Inc. contributed to the fund-raising drive.

“The PNP is sympathetic to the fight of the government, especially ngayon na napakahirap. That’s why kahit hindi masyadong malaki we like to contribute on the part of the PNP to show also our sympathy to government,” he said.
