Nasa batas yan! Ping stresses 18M families should get amelioration for 2nd month

Some 18 million families targeted as beneficiaries of social amelioration funds due to the COVID-19 threat should still get the second tranche even if the community quarantines in their areas had been eased, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Sunday.

Lacson said this is the intention of the Bayanihan Act, which Congress passed in a special session last March.

He noted the law’s intention is to help those who are projected to lose their livelihoods for two months.

Under Sec. 4 of the Bayanihan Act, temporary emergency measures include an “emergency subsidy to around 18 million low-income households.”

Besides, Lacson said many of these families may have already borrowed money to prepare for the second month of the lockdown.

On the other hand, he indicated those who insist on not paying the second tranche could take the issue to the Supreme Court as the top authority in interpreting the law.
