Pabibo na, palpak pa! Ping refutes Duque’s ‘second COVID wave’ claim

Was Health Secretary Francisco Duque III’s claim that we are now facing the second wave of the COVID-19 threat merely a way to pat himself on the back?

If so, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Thursday that Duque is doing the country a disservice because he may be basing his claim on a wrong conclusion.

“That’s one way of patting himself on the back. But not for a good reason. If you are basing your statement only to pat yourself on your shoulders and you are basing your statement on wrong conclusion, you are doing your country a disservice,” Lacson said in an interview on the ABS-CBN News Channel.

Lacson said he does not agree with Duque that the country is now facing the second wave of the COVID threat, adding we are not even past the first wave.

He added medical experts have also disagreed with Duque’s claim.

“Not only do I not agree. But medical experts have also expressed their disagreement with the statement attributed to Sec Duque that we are now into the second wave, because we have not yet got past the first wave. So how can we way we are already confronting the second wave?” he said.

Also, Lacson noted that during the Senate Committee of the Whole hearing Tuesday, he asked the DOH why it cannot come up with statistics pointing to the number of cases as tested, on a specific date.

He said that if the DOH tested 10,000 people last May 1, they should come out with those cases or the infection on that particular date, not 14 days after.

“If we base our decision in inaccurate data, chances are we’ll be coming up with wrong decisions or wrong conclusions,” he said.
