Palace: ABS-CBN shutdown amid Covid-19 crisis ‘not prudent’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang said it was “not prudent” to shut down ABS-CBN, which employs about 11,000 people, while the country is grappling with the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

“Siguro hindi nga prudent, pero ang desisyon po yan ay tanging NTC (National Telecommunications Commission) lang ang pupwedeng gumawa,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview over state-run PTV-4.

Roque maintained that it was “perfectly within the powers” of the NTC, an attached agency of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, to issue the cease and desist order against the media provider whose legislative franchise expired on May 4.

Pero hindi nga nakuha,” according to him.
