MalacaƱang said that it respects the decision of the House of Representatives to grant a temporary franchise for ABS-CBN.
The Lower House convened itself into a Committee of the Whole yesterday and approved on second reading House Bill No. (HBN) 6732 that seeks to allow the media company to operate until October 31, 2020.
The measure came after the National Telecommunications Commission ordered ABS-CBN on May 5 to stop their operations due to the expiration of its legislative franchise.
“We respect that as it is their constitutional prerogative,” according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
Roque earlier assured that President Rodrigo Duterte, who had repeatedly threatened to block the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, will not veto the bill giving ABS-CBN a fresh 25-year franchise.
“Unless there is any constitutional infirmity, I don’t think the President is inclined to veto it,” he said in a press briefing.
