ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Yap has called out Inquirer.net for reporting about his interview on ANC Wednesday (May 27), where he revealed the “personal reason” for supporting the congressional investigation on ABS-CBN.
In a privilege speech Wednesday, Yap accused Inquirer.net of failing to get his side for a story based on his ANC interview. The article was titled, “Solon admits ‘personal reason’ in seeking probe into alleged ABS-CBN franchise violations.”
In the interview, Yap said ABS-CBN’s alleged failure to follow up on allegations about Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte prompted him to support the presidential son’s resolution to have the network investigated.
Yap took issue with former Customs broker Mark Taguba’s allegation that Duterte was linked to the “Davao Group” allegedly involved in smuggling.
Taguba eventually cleared Duterte of any wrongdoing, saying his information about the presidential son’s alleged ties with the “Davao Group” was only based on hearsay.
Yap, however, claimed ABS-CBN never followed up on Taguba’s claims to clear Duterte’s name.
In his speech, Yap said the “personal” reason he cited for supporting the probe on ABS-CBN was not Duterte, but media’s failure to report fairly.
Yap said Inquirer.net should’ve gotten his side even if it’s common practice for media companies to write about interviews which appear on other platforms.
