Malacañang on Sunday condemned the burning of houses and a chapel in Opol, Misamis Oriental by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
“We strongly denounce the heinous act of the burning of four houses and a chapel, perpetrated by members of the NPA against some residents of Limonda,” Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement.
Andanar called as “extraordinarily callous and inhumane” the dastardly acts committed in the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It is disturbing and unforgivable that the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)-NPA, which claims to champion the common people, are the ones who blatantly disregard and violate the human rights of the poor folk,” according to him.
Andanar, also the designated Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security for Northern Mindanao, assured the public that the government will “exhaust all means” to bring perpetrators to justice.
“We will help coordinate with the local government and the concerned government agencies to ensure that those affected are given the assistance that they need. We will also coordinate with the authorities in order to remain updated on the developments regarding the incident until the matter is resolved,” he concluded.
