Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto on Monday gave voice to those who have not been heard in the raging public debate over the franchise of ABS-CBN: the personal assistants, drivers, bodyguards and makeup artists of the network’s prized talents.
The Batangas lawmaker said these people, while not directly employed by ABS-CBN, would also be affected by the continued shutdown of the media giant.
“Kasama po sa mga apektado dito ang mga personal assistant, personal make-up artist ng mga artista ng ABS-CBN,” Recto said.
The actress-turned-politician was one of several lawmakers who sponsored the bills granting a fresh franchise to ABS-CBN during the joint hearing of the House committees on legislative franchises and good government.
“This is the right time for ABS-CBN to answer all allegations raised against it, and the best opportunity for ABS-CBN to clear all the issues and speculations,” Recto said.
She said she was saddened by the huge impact this will have on the livelihood of the 11,000 people employed by the network.
