Vice President Leni Robredo could play second fiddle to Secretary Carlito Galvez in the inter-agency task force in charge of the government’s COVID-19 response, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. said Saturday (June 20).
Locsin made the suggestion as he questioned former senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s suggestion for Robredo to lead the inter-agency task force on emerging infectious diseases (IATF) currently headed by Galvez.
Trillanes said the government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis will be more effective with Robredo at the helm of IATF.
“Why does it have to be ‘lead’, why not a supporting role under General Galvez who waded in and instantly whipped the disorganized effort into working shape. I mean, if you’re sincere. What if she’s assisted by the same people who have made a mess of a fine person’s campaign?” Locsin said in response to an article on Trillanes’ remark.
Robredo has been helping out in the pandemic through the Office of the Vice President. Her camp has said she does not need a new government post to reach more people.
