Malacañang does not regret implementing strict quarantine measures in response to coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
In an interview with ANC’s “Headstart” Wednesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the government-mandated lockdown protocols prevented the rise in the pandemic’s death toll.
Roque was reacting to criticisms that the Philippines has the longest Covid-19 lockdown in the world. The country has been in lockdown since mid-March.
“I think we made the right move because, in terms of deaths, we’ve had in excess of a thousand compared to the hundreds of thousands that have already died in places like the United States,” according to the Palace official.
“So, I don’t think there’s any regret about what we have implemented. We have protected our people,” he added.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Department of Health has recorded a total of 26,781 confirmed cases, with 6,552 recoveries and 1,103 fatalities.
