Palace: Up to Duque to take a leave while investigated by Ombudsman

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang leaves it up to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III whether to take a leave while he is under investigation.

Duque and other health officials are now being investigated by the Office of the Ombudsman for alleged irregularities on the Department of Health’s response to the coronavirus disease pandemic.

“Those calls are addressed to Secretary Duque and he has to answer them. I don’t think I have any authority to speak on behalf of Secretary Duque,” Roque said in a television interview Wednesday.

“All I can say is Cabinet members serve at the pleasure of the President and until the President says I have lost trust and confidence in you, they can stay. All calls for resignation or going on leave are addressed to Secretary Duque. He should address that,” according to him.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte said he still believes in Duque despite the ongoing probe against him.

The chief executive also refuted allegations that the secretary has committed corruption, saying that he’s too rich that he won’t get involved in any corrupt practices.
