House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez on Thursday said the House of Representatives was ready and willing to hold a special session, upon request of President Rodrigo Duterte, to pass the Bayanihan to Recover as One bill.
“We are still awaiting the official communication from the Palace,” the Leyte lawmaker said in a statement.
He added that the House leadership under Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano “is committed to approve the Bayanihan to Recover as One bill or the Bayanihan 2 to help President Rodrigo Duterte kickstart our economy and strengthen government’s fight against the spread of Covid-19.”
Bayanihan 2 is the follow-up bill to Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and aimed at stimulating the economy and pushing for the country’s recovery during and after Covid-19.
“We have to support the President to ensure the country and Filipinos’ survival from this pandemic,” Romualdez said.
“The members of the House Majority are in full agreement that we all have to work for the passage of the Bayanihan 2. We will get the job done,” he added.
“Since day one of the 18th Congress, we are supportive of President Duterte and his legislative agenda with vitality, energy, and enthusiasm to continue the progress of his administration and to serve the nation,” Romualdez said.
