Velasco to NGCP: Suspend any power rate increase during pandemic

The chairman of the House committee on energy on Tuesday made an appeal to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to suspend any increase in power rates “so that our fellow Filipinos are spared further burden while coping with Covid-19.”

Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco said he supports calls for NGCP to take consideration of the pandemic and difficulties presently faced by the country.

He urged the NGCP to suspend any rate increase so that Filipinos are not unduly burdened during the pandemic.

Velasco had earlier asked the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to resolve the pending review of the utilities’ rates as soon as possible.

“As mandated by the EPIRA, it is the ERC’s task, as the primary energy regulator of the country, to review and set allowable rates that are imposed by transmission utilities,” he said.
