Malacañang on Monday disagreed with the report of the World Health Organization (WHO) that the Philippines has the fastest-growing number of new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the Western Pacific Region.
“Ang sabi ng WHO, tayo daw ang pinakamabilis na tumaas na kaso sa buong Western Pacific Region. Totoo ba ito? We beg to disagree,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online public briefing.
Data from WHO showed that the country recorded 8,143 new cases from June 16 to June 27, the highest among 22 countries in the region.
Singapore ranked second with 2,351 cases, followed by China with 302 during the same period.
“Kung titignan natin yung pagtaas ng kaso dapat yan in relation to your population,” according to Roque.
“Bakit tayo ikukumpara sa Singapore? Ang Singapore limang milyon lang po yan. Isang syudad lang yan, hindi pa syudad ng Quezon City o Manila,” he also said.
