Wolf in sheep’s clothing: PCOO exec claims pro-Ressa nun is allied with NPA

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy has accused a ranking official of St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) of ties with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and New People’s Army (NPA) after the nun lambasted the judge who convicted Rappler chief executive officer Maria Ressa of cyber libel.

In a June 17 Facebook post, Badoy called SSC Vice President for External Affairs Sr. Mary John Mananzan “a long time ally” of the communist movement.

“She is also the emeritus chairperson of GABRIELA, an above-ground organization of the terrorist group, CPP NPA NDF, that has brought so much harm, so much death and destruction to our beloved Philippines. A Catholic nun given a place of honor in a communist terrorist organization. Imagine that,” Badoy said.

Mananzan earlier denounced the guilty verdict handed down by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 36 judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa on Ressa, saying she was “ashamed” that the latter was an SSC alumna.

Badoy, however, it was Mananzan who’s bringing “shame and dishonor” to SSC because of her alleged ties to the CPP-NPA.

“From someone who is supposed to be a Catholic nun. How many Scholasticans has this wolf in sheep’s clothing harmed with her deceit and hypocrisy?” Badoy asked.
