Balita na lang natira! No more Umagang Kay Ganda, Rated K as ABS-CBN stops production of current affairs shows

The number of shows produced by ABS-CBN continues to decrease as uncertainty hounds the network’s franchise renewal bid.

ABS-CBN has decided to temporarily stop the production of its current affairs shows, writer and producer Nick Villavecer tweeted Wednesday (July 1).

Villavecer said among the shows affected by the production halt include Umagang Kay Ganda, Kuha Mo, Rated K, SOCO, Matanglawin, Sports U, My Puhunan, #NoFilter, Mission Possible, Failon Ngayon, and DocuCentral.

TV Patrol, however, will continue to air. ABS-CBN’s news operations will also continue through its digital platform and TeleRadyo.

“While they were grilling our bosses at the hearing today, we were told at past noon that there will be an emergency meeting. ‘You will hear a lot of bad news today,’ my boss warned. And bad news it is: ABS-CBN’s Current Affairs division will temporarily STOP production,” Villavecer tweeted.

He said the pause in the production of ABS-CBN’s current affairs shows will hurt the income of the staff who work on them.

“This means we will no longer work and release new content online or any other platforms in the meantime. Huge pay cut. Other benefits remain. Technically, we are still employed. But we all ask the same question: Until when?” Villavecer asked.

ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal bid is still pending in the House of Representatives, close to two months since the network went off the air because its 1995 franchise expired.
