Can’t go to Manila? SC bares alternative mode of signing roll of attorneys

Bar passers having difficulty going to Manila to sign the roll of attorneys are no longer required by the Supreme Court (SC) to go.

Acting on the directive issued by the SC which approved the measure, SC Clerk of Court and Bar Confidant Rosita Requillas-Nacional has issued a notice which states that 2019 bar passers affected by the travel restrictions “may avail of the alternative procedure described herein.”

However, those who will avail the alternative procedure should comply on or before August 7.

Otherwise, Nacional warned “failure of the affected bar passers to comply with the aforesaid undertaking within the prescribed period shall result in, among others, the immediate imposition of the appropriate administrative sanctions affecting one’s good standing as a member of the Philippine Bar.”

Under the alternative procedure, those having difficulty to travel to Manila to sign the roll of attorneys can send via postal money order the P3,850 bar admission and certification fees.

But they also have mail to the Office of the Bar Confidant (OBC) the required affidavit which includes “an undertaking to physically sign the Roll of Attorney and register their biometric information at the OBC located in the Supreme ourt premises…”

“Within ten working days from the receipt of the complete documentary requirements and full payment, the OBC shall send the Certificate of Membership to the Philippine Bar, bar rating, and official receipt to the bar passer’s email address. The bar passers shall be deemed to have been admitted to the practice of law on the date indicated on the aforesaid certificate,” the bar confidant said.
