Malacañang on Friday allayed fears of the public that the move to allow the entry of foreign nationals with long-term visas in the country would further increase cases of coronavirus in the Philippines.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved on Thursday the entry of long-term foreign residents in the country starting August 1.
“Dadaan po sila sa proseso. Kinakailangan magpa-PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test sila pagdating nila,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an interview with state-run PTV-4.
Roque added that they will also be required to undergo quarantine while waiting for test results.
“Habang nag-aantay ng resulta sila po ay magiistay sa quarantine. At ito naman po ay hindi mga ordinaryong dayuhan lamang. Ito ay mga dayuhan na kinokonsidera nila na ang kanilang tahanan ay nandito sa Pilipinas dahil sila ay mga permanent residents,” according to him.
The IATF set the following conditions prior to the entry of these foreign nationals:
*They must first have valid and existing visas at the time of the entry.
*They are subject to the maximum capacity of inbound passengers at the port and date of entry, as returning overseas Filipinos will be given priority; and
*They must secure a pre-booked accredited quarantine facility and a pre-booked Covid-19 testing provider.
