Amid heavy criticism, the daughter of Anakalusugan party-list Mike Defensor has distanced herself from the lawmaker’s vote against the franchise application of ABS-CBN.
Mikee Defensor, a student at Ateneo Law School, said it was “unfair” for people to assume she and her father share the same opinion on the issue of ABS-CBN’s franchise.
“I’ve stayed silent despite my dad ‘trending’ many times on Twitter because I understand he is a public official and that he must be held accountable for his actions,” she said.
Mikee reminded the public that while she’s the daughter of Defensor, she isn’t a politiko.
“I’ve had my own share of arguments and debates in my own home in order to prevent all this from happening. But at the end of the day, I’m not the one im Congress. And more importantly, I am NOT my father,” she said.
Mikee said she sides with the 11,000 workers whose jobs were put at risk because ABS-CBN failed to get a franchise.
Defensor was one of the 70 lawmakers who voted to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise application at the level of the House legislative franchises committee.
In a statement, Defensor said he doesn’t mind his daughter having a different opinion from him.
“I have always encouraged dissent and differences in opinion. I just explain my stand and the basis of my position every time that there are issues discussed in public,” he said.
