Duterte assures Pinoys: Huwag kayong matakot kung hindi ka terorista

By Prince Golez

Law-abiding citizens of the country should not fear the newly signed anti-terrorism law, President Rodrigo Duterte said.

In a televised address to Filipinos early Wednesday, Duterte said the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 is a “much needed” legal weapon to combat terrorism in the country.

“For the law-abiding citizen of this country, I am addressing you with all sincerity: Huwag ho kayong matakot kung hindi ka terorista,” the President said.

Duterte deplored the terrorist bombings in Mindanao which have caused many casualties and displacements.

“As what happened in Mindanao and in other places, mostly in Mindanao, ang ginagamit kasi nito nila, bomba. And ang bomba niyan lahat nasa simbahan may tama o may bukol,” he said.

“Iyon nga ang problema diyan eh. They think that they are a different breed. They would like to be treated with another set of law. When as a matter of fact, they are terrorist.”

The Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 was signed into law Friday, which allows the detention of suspects without warrant or charge for up to 24 days.
