Go ahead, make my day! Morales laughs off Philhealth corruption charges, ready to face Senate probe

“O sige…OK…magaling. Dapat nga, because the Senate, people should know what is happening in Philhealth,” said Morales who was laughing in his interview with DZBB’s Arnel Clavio and Ali Sotto.

“He (Keith) should identify the officials and substantiate his charges…baka wala pa siyang nahahanap na korapasyon sa akin,” he added.

The Senate committee of the whole to investigate several irregularities in PhilHealth, including the P400 million in Interim Reimbursement Mechanism (IRM) funds released to five hospitals in the Bicol region and Eastern Visayas.

Morales explained that Philhealth released cash advances to over 600 hospitals in the country in mid-March when President Rodrigo Duterte declared a lockdown to contain the coronavirus.

“Pagpasok ng pandemic, we wanted to prepare hospitals na meron na silang pondo. ‘D i natin alam gaano katindi ang pandemic noon. Ili-liquidate naman nila. Alam na natin ngayon malakas sa NCR (National Capital Region) and Cebu, but back in March, we wanted to be sure, preemptive yun,” he said.

Morales admitted that some of the hospitals were no accredited or under investigation. “Totoo yan we wanted to keep hospital operating. Malalaki itong ospital na ito, kung babanggitin ko, baka magulat kayo.

“Konting atraso lang naman, nagkamali ng code, kulang dokumento. Kung meron kang violation kasi, suspended accreditation agad. We just wanted to help all hospital operations during the pandemic.” said Morales.
