IATF OKs five-day suspension of MRT-3 ops to test workers, disinfect trains

The national government has approved the temporary suspension of operations of MRT-3 starting today, Tuesday.

The five-day shutdown will be undertaken to give way to RT-PCR testing of all MRT-3 personnel following the increasing number of personnel who tested positive for coronavirus disease.

“Inaprubahan ng IATF yung rekomendasyon ng DOTr na suspendihin muna ang operasyon ng MRT-3 sa loob ng limang araw simula ngayong araw na ito. Ito ay para ma-test lahat ng empleyado sa pamamagitan ng PCR at bukod dun para magkaroon sila ng mga minimum requirements na magtatrabaho na lahat ay negatibo sa testing,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque during a virtual presser.

“Merong pagbibigay prayoridad sa disinfection ng mga pasilidad ng MRT-3. Kinakailangan talaga pansamantala itigil ang operasyon hindi lang para ma-testing kundi para magkaroon ng disinfection ang ating mga tren,” he added.

Roque also noted that there will be increased bus augmentation during the suspension period.

“Meron tayong 190 buses para sa [EDSA Busway] at may fixed dispatching interval kada tatlong minuto. 150 buses ang ide-deploy para sa EDSA busway service na nagsisilbi sa mga pasahero mula sa Monumento hanggang PITX. Isang miniloop naman ang magsisilbi sa mga pasahero mula Timog Avenue hanggang Ortigas,” according to him.
