Malacañang said Sunday it will let the Supreme Court (SC) decide on the constitutionality of the new anti-terrorism law.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after a group of lawyers filed with Supreme Court a petition challenging the constitutionality of the new anti-terrorism legislation
“The Palace will leave it to the SC to decide on these petitions and will abide by whatever the ruling is,” said Roque.
On Friday, President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act No. 11479, or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, repealing the Human Security Act of 2007.
The measure calls for 12 years imprisonment to any person who shall threaten to commit terrorism and those who will propose any terroristic acts or incite others to commit terrorism.
It likewise allows the detention of a person suspected of committing any terrorist acts for up to 24 days without charges.
