‘Walang budget, medisina’: Duterte admits no mention of coronavirus recovery plan in SONA

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday addressed criticisms that his government failed to present a detailed coronavirus recovery plan during his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

During a taped public address on state-run PTV-4 Friday, Duterte admitted he was unable to mention his roadmap to fight the pandemic, citing lack of budget and vaccine for the viral illness.

“Sabihin niyo wala kaming roadmap. The roadmap ng recovery natin. I do not know din ‘yung headline niyang newspaper… The roadmap… ‘Duterte, where is your roadmap?’ Hindi nga kami maka-roadmap because we were talking about a budget,” according to the President.

“Ito ngayong gabing ito. I could not have uttered a single sentence about roadmap to recovery kasi ang una talaga diyan ang medicine,” he also said.

Earlier, Malacañang slammed critics and detractors of this administration who claimed that a recovery roadmap was missing in Duterte’s annual speech, citing the proposed measures endorsed by the chief executive for immediate passage.

The President’s priority legislation includes the passage of the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises, and the Financial Institutions Strategic Transfer.

He also directed the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry to come up with agri-business and entrepreneurship projects to help displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) rebuild their livelihood and asked government financial institutions to continue providing low-interest loans to the OFWs.
